Fátima

Via Sacra Fátima, Cova da Iria, Fátima

The Way of the Cross begins at the Rotunda dos Pastorinhos (South Roundabout) and follows the route usually taken by the three shepherd children from Aljustrel to Cova da Iria. The route ends at the Hungarian Calvary, whose chapel is dedicated to St Stephen, King of Hungary.

It was here that the apparitions of the Angel of Peace took place in 1916, and an apparition of the Virgin Mary on 19 August 1917.

The fourteen stations of the Way of the Cross and the chapel, offered by the Catholics of Hungary, were designed by Ladislaus Marec.

This is a place of absolute seclusion, totally preserved, where the olive and holm oak trees define the spirit of the place.
