Statue of Pope John Paul II

Inaugurated in October 2007, the monument to John Paul II represents one of the main points of devotion for pilgrims and visitors. Located to the north-east of the new church, the bronze statue was designed by Polish artist Czeslaw Dzwigaj and stands 3.5 metres high. On its base are inscribed the words of John Paul II, spoken in Fatima in May 1982 – “This adoring thought of mine, expressed in this blessed land of Fatima, goes to the Most Holy Trinity: Blessed be God, rich in mercy, for the great love with which he has loved us!”.
