A place for reflection and prayer, the Shrine was born from the request made by Our Lady of the Rosary to the three little shepherds during her apparition on October 13, 1917 – “I want to tell you to build a chapel here in my honor, for I am the Lady of the Rosary.”
In 1919, the Little Chapel of the Apparitions was erected on the exact spot where the Lady appeared to Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. Since then, the ever-increasing number of pilgrims has led to the construction of the Shrine, with various places for worship and prayer.
A Marian temple and pilgrimage center, the Shrine of Fatima is thus the living memory of Our Lady’s apparitions to the three little shepherds.
