Place of Our Lady’s Apparition on August 19th

On August 19, 1917, Our Lady appeared in Valinhos, about 500 meters from the village of Aljustrel, because on the 13th the children had been taken by the Council Administrator to Vila Nova de Ourém for questioning.

The following Sunday, August 19, the Virgin appeared to them in Valinhos and asked them to continue going to the Cova da Iria on the 13th and to pray the Rosary every day.
“Pray, pray a lot and make sacrifices for sinners, many souls are going to hell because there is no one to sacrifice and ask for them,” Our Lady said.

The monument commemorating this apparition was built at the expense of Hungarian Catholics and inaugurated on August 12, 1956. The white image of Our Lady of Fatima is the work of sculptor Maria Amélia Carvalheira da Silva.
