Leiria Castle

Leiria Castle is a monumental symbol of the city’s history. Within its imposing walls are traces of the various phases of occupation, from military fortress to royal palace.

Many kings and queens have been dazzled by the fantastic landscape that can be seen from the top of the hill. King Dinis was probably the monarch who spent the most time in Leiria, along with his wife, Queen Isabel, to whom the legend of the Miracle of the Roses is attributed, and this is just one of the many stories that were born in Leiria thanks to these kings.
