Via Sacra Fátima, Cova da Iria, Fátima

At the highest point of the Way of the Cross is the Hungarian Calvary and the Chapel of St. Stephen of Hungary. The inspiration for the construction of the Hungarian Calvary came from two Hungarian priests, Father Elias Kardos and Father Luis Kondor, who, attentive to the Message of Fatima, saw in this message a “light” from God for the Hungarian people who were living under the pressure of the communist dictatorship and the persecution of the Church after World War II.

The two Hungarian priests understood that Our Lady’s promises in the Fatima message were also for the Hungarian people. This gave rise to the idea of building a Calvary with 14 stations in Fatima, with the help of the Hungarian people.

The site is interesting, captivating and quiet, allowing you to experience peace and tranquillity of mind. The surrounding area is irregular, rocky and surrounded by olive and holm oak trees, inviting faith, spirituality and reflection.
