Fatima Mills (Fazarga)

Nature
Fazarga – Fátima

On a high plateau in Fátima, known as Cabeço da Fazarga and with a wide view of the horizon, five windmills are lined up, with a “fixed” structure, circular plan and conical roof, four of which are made of plastered and whitewashed masonry and one of wood.

These windmill structures, with construction types common in Extremadura, are representative of the importance of cereals in the local diet and the use of wind as a privileged driving force.

One of the mills, owned by the municipality and part of the Municipal Museum, tells the story of the grain milling cycle in a relationship with the community and the landscape, based on the life story of the millers Adelina and Adriano.
