Calçada da Mulher Morta

Located 100m from the gates of Santarém, this pedestrian route takes visitors to the cross of the place of the Dead Woman, a marker that marks the spot where the episode took place. According to the story, a knight and a young girl from the village fell in love, but the girl’s father didn’t approve of their courtship. The young woman decided to run away, but her father chased her down the street and threw a hoe at her, causing her death. The cross thus marks the spot where the girl was buried.

Archaeological excavations suggest that there may have been a primitive section dating back to Roman times.
